Uganda<\/h1>\n\n\n

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa whose diverse landscape encompasses the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and immense Lake Victoria. Uganda is called the Pearl of Africa because of its beauty, its natural wonders and its welcoming people!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country hosts more than 1.5 million refugees, making it one of the largest refugee\u2011hosting countries globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n

Uganda, with over 45 million people, continues to face widespread poverty, especially in the Northern and Eastern regions. High unemployment, food insecurity, corruption, and external shocks remain key barriers to development<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These pressures also affect people\u2019s wellbeing, with many experiencing mental health challenges linked to economic hardship and displacement. While Uganda\u2019s policies allow refugees to work and move freely, the high numbers put pressure on local resources and can create tensions with host communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many children do not achieve basic learning levels, and early childhood education is limited.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Education outcomes remain uneven despite improved access. Many children do not achieve basic learning levels, and early childhood education is limited. Girls and vulnerable groups face additional barriers, including early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and lack of adequate school facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most households rely on agriculture, making them highly vulnerable to climate change. Droughts, floods, and rising temperatures reduce food production and increase food insecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, rapid population growth and limited job opportunities leave many young people without stable livelihoods, while gender inequality continues to restrict opportunities for women and girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our approach and focus areas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our programmes in Uganda aims to eradicate poverty by promoting social change and sustainable development through access to quality education and increased income generation, strengthened livelihoods, and job creation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • We promote inclusive quality education by strengthening early childhood development, improving school systems and infrastructure, and equipping children and adolescents with life skills and empowerment training, while engaging families and communities to enhance learning, retention, and long-term wellbeing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Our income and job creation programs promote entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, focusing on traditional livelihoods and emerging opportunities within the blue and green economy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • In promoting gender equality, we ensure that women and girls have access to education, employment, and leadership opportunities, empowering them to become drivers of change in their communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • We also integrate climate-smart practices into our initiatives, helping communities adapt to climate change while protecting the environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Additionally, we champion inclusion by ensuring that marginalised and vulnerable groups including refugees are not left behind, advocating for equal access to resources, opportunities, and platforms to amplify their voices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    For the 2024\u20132028 strategic period, we are partnering with local organizations and other private sector partners to strengthen the resilience of poor and marginalized communities in West Nile, Acholi, and Busoga sub-region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Our ECCE program supports children aged 3\u201312 years, focusing on school readiness for preschoolers and strengthening learning outcomes across the full primary cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Re-enrollment of out-of-school children, especially in refugee settlements. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Competence Development for ECD Educators and Lower Primary Teachers and caregivers<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Functional and learning assessment for learners with disabilities. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Promoting play-based learning, parents\u2019 involvement, school feeding and practices using school gardens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Improving school infrastructure and school governance bodies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        Bonga – Adolescent empowerment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        Our Bonga Programme empowers out-of-school adolescent girls with literacy, life skills, and entrepreneurship training, enabling them to continue their education or start businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • Menstrual Hygiene practices: reusable pads making and liquid soap <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
